The two most common questions I get from people who are new to Illuminated Journaling are "what supplies do you use?" and "how did you do that?!?!" I love these questions!
I love the first question because it takes very little to get started with Illuminated Journaling. I have a few basic supplies that I use - and they fit in a small shoulder bag that I can take just about anywhere. Traveling is easy (I have enjoyed plane rides so much more since discovering I can get everything I need to work in my Bible in my carry on luggage). While you will no doubt add to your supplies as you go deeper into your study and creative reflection, I recommend the products that I have put into the list over on the right side of the page because I use them myself and I know that you will get good results with them.
I love the second question because one of my favorite things to do is to share tips and techniques that I have found to work from my own journaling. I have set up a page where I can post tutorials and workshops that you may enjoy taking. Be sure and check it out.
I am also available to come and teach a several session Workshop at an art or scrapbooking supply store, a ministry retreat or as an extracurricular class for Christian Academies. If you would be interested in me teaching in your area, please send me a message on the Workshop page - I would love to have that opportunity.
There are so many exciting things that I hope to be able to reveal very soon. God has opened up some doors that I am absolutely delighted to get to be working on for you every single day! I am a blessed woman! Please keep me in your prayers! I need wisdom, discernment and creativity in LARGE doses every day!
I will be sending out an occasional newsletter - when I have new workshops or resources to announce. If you are interested in getting that newsletter there is an easy way to sign up for it at the top right side of this page.
I would love to hear from you...so please use this form to let me know what you would like to learn more about! I get some of my best inspiration from you...so don't hesitate to let me know how I can help you!
Welcome to Illuminated Journaling!
I am so excited that you are interested in learning more! Whether you are brand new to Illuminated Journaling - or have been journaling in one form or another in your Bible for a long time, it is my hope that you will find something here to encourage you on your spiritual journey. I will be sharing my own journey with you and I can't wait to be inspired by you as well!
Every Bible I have ever owned has ended up being the repository of all sorts of evidence that I have met with God on the pages of His Word. If you were to do a quick flip through one of my Bibles, you would find that sermon notes, prayers, word studies and cross references have been scribbled in the margins and that words and even whole paragraphs have been underlined, circled and color coded. These marks on the pages of my Bibles were not put there to distract from the Word of God – but to remind me of the personal insights and instructions God has shared with me as I studied and meditated on His Word. My newest Bible also contains illustrations - a form of Illuminated Journaling.
In Genesis 1:27, the Bible tells us that “God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” As imperfect as we are, we have built into us a creativity that is there because God made us in His image. If we want to know God deeply and worship Him genuinely – we need to incorporate that creative part of ourselves that has been made in His image.
My heart's desire is to help everyone who visits this site, reads my book, downloads a resource or attends one of my workshops to come into the presence of God and respond to the living Word in a deep and refreshing way.

Illuminated Journaling ™ book
My new book, Illuminated Journaling, has just been released!
Illuminated Journaling is written to challenge Christ Followers to stretch the boundaries of how they have typically studied God's Word so they might experience a deeper, richer and more personal relationship with God
by lending authentic and creative expression to their faith.
If the Bible is God's introduction of Himself to His children,
a love letter to His followers and an instruction book for
living a life pleasing to Him, Illuminated Journaling
provides a tangible way for us to communicate back to Him
that we have heard His voice, that we are in love with Him too
and perhaps, most importantly, that we want to give a gift back
to Him that is filled with genuine praise and appreciation for Who He is
and what He has done for us.
You can order your copy now...and get it before you can buy it! The first 100 orders will receive an autographed copy...and be entered to win an ESV Journaling Bible.
This is my latest Tutorial about Illuminated Journaling. I have more than 200 YouTube videos/tutorials that you may want to check out as well. They cover a wide range of topics and projects - and many of the things I share there are techniques I have modified to work in my Illuminated Journaling Bible.
You may also be interested in taking one or more of my online Illuminated Journaling Workshops. You can check them out here...and see some of my other Tutorials as well.
You don't need a lot of fancy products to get started with journaling in your Bible. Other than your wide margin Bible, I recommend getting some watercolors, colored pencils, tracing paper and a few pens. I've put together a Foundations Kit that has everything you need to begin.
Lots of Bible Journalers also have other hobbies that use products that would be fun to use in their Bibles. If you like to stamp or use stencils and a variety of inks, I would suggest that you begin by adding some clear gesso to your page. It only takes a very thin layer -- I scrape it on with an old gift card or room key card and let it dry thoroughly...then begin stamping or stenciling.
I will be introducing the
Series in July along with
some super fun new products.
If you haven't taken the four part Introduction to Illuminated Journaling Series, you may want to grab all four at this super low price and be ready to jump into a whole new level of fun techniques using some of the hottest new Bible Journaling products.
